There’s More to You Than the Version You’ve Been Hiding Behind. #authentic self-expression
Somewhere along the way, you learned to shrink.
To soften your edges.
To become the version of you that felt safer to share with the world.
Maybe it started with being the “good girl” or the “easy one.”
Maybe it happened slowly, through the small ways you edited your truth in rooms where it didn’t feel welcome. Or through the times you reached for what was expected of you instead of what felt true.
You’re not broken for doing that. You were protecting yourself.
But it’s okay to want more now. It’s okay to feel the ache of what’s been hidden.
Because here’s the quiet truth: there is more to you than the version you’ve been hiding behind.
The Mask That Got You Through Might Be Blocking What Wants to Come Through
We all build protective identities to navigate a world that doesn’t always feel safe for sensitivity, honesty, or creative self-expression. You learned to read the room. To perform. To play small. To keep things smooth.
But over time, that mask becomes heavy. The self-censoring becomes exhausting. And your creative energy ( your intuition, your joy, your truth) starts to dim under the weight of all that pretending.
You might not even realise how much of yourself you’ve tucked away until you try to create something or speak from the heart… and the words don’t come.
That doesn’t mean you’re lost. It means you’ve been surviving.
And now, you’re being invited to come home.
Authentic Self-Expression Isn’t Loud, It’s Honest
Authenticity isn’t about being loud or brave all the time.
It’s about being honest with yourself, moment by moment.
It’s the quiet choice to tell the truth in your journal.
The slow return to painting or writing or speaking without editing every word.
The simple courage it takes to say, “This matters to me,” even if no one claps.
Authentic self-expression starts when you stop asking who you should be and start listening to who you already are underneath the noise.
The you that exists when no one is watching.
The you that doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful.

What Comes After Hiding?
You don’t have to leap out of hiding all at once.
This is not a push to be more visible or productive.
This is an invitation to be more you.
- Say the thing you’ve been softening.
- Make the art you’re scared won’t be “good enough.”
- Ask the question you’ve been holding inside.
You don’t need a plan. You need a moment of truth.
And then another. And another.
The unfolding is slow, but it’s sacred.
It’s how you remember yourself.
When You’re Ready to Unhide
If you feel like you’re on the edge of something — like a part of you is quietly asking to come forward — you’re not alone. So many of us are standing there with you, waiting for permission to be real.
If you’re ready to take that first step back to yourself, I offer a space called the Unfold Session. It’s a gentle one-to-one experience where your truth is safe to rise, your creativity is welcomed back in, and your voice is allowed to speak without interruption.
Come exactly as you are. There’s nothing to perform here.
Only room to remember what you’ve been carrying all along.
Book your Unfold Session here ➝
As always, I’m here if you have a question or would like some support send me a quick message and I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can. Until then, take care.
With much love, Maria.
